CMF Trains Citizen Advocates on What To Do Before, During, and After Meetings

It's "fly-in" season, so last month the Congressional Management Foundation conducted a subscriber-only webinar on "Before, During, and After Meetings with Congress." While we can only provide our Partners with the complete version of the CMF research discussed in this webinar, we are pleased to offer you this short summary.

Key points included:

  • Best time to request a meeting with a Member of Congress: 4-5 weeks out.
  • Best practice for preparing the office you'll meet with: send a 1-2 page summary 1-2 days IN ADVANCE of the meeting.
  • Best practice in following up the meeting: short note to the Legislative Assistant FROM THE CONSTITUENT who conducted the meeting.

Here is a 3-minute "Highlight Video" of the webinar.

"While I had a good foundation already, this webinar provided great insight into being the most successful we can be: Before, During and After. The pace was just right, and the graphs and question pages of the PowerPoint were incredibly helpful and easy to read."
