New Executive Director Named at CMF

CMF is a non-profit, non-partisan organization dedicated to promoting a more effective Congress through better management. CMF has pursued this mission for nearly 30 years by providing management books and reports, training programs to Members of Congress and their staff, as well as committees and leadership offices. In addition, CMF also provides management studies to institutional offices within the Congress.

Mr. Shapiro has been the executive director of CMF for the past 18 years. Under his tenure CMF expanded in size, in range of services provided to the Congress and in recognition for its valuable non-partisan work. Prior to working at CMF, Mr. Shapiro worked as a committee staffer in the House and Senate as well as a management consultant for several prominent organizations.

Ms. Bell worked as a House staffer from 1983 – 1994 including working for five years as a House Chief of Staff. Since 1995, she has worked in government relations, most recently as a director of government and regulatory affairs for PricewaterhouseCoopers (formerly Coopers & Lybrand). During the past decade, Ms. Bell has also served as an active member of the CMF Board of Governors and is currently an officer of the House Administrative Assistants Alumni Association.

Mr. Shapiro and Ms. Bell will be sharing the duties of executive director between now and the end of the year.

"While it will be tough for me to leave this unique and valuable organization, it’s time I try my hand at other activities. I am delighted to turn the reins of CMF over to someone as capable and qualified as Beverly," Shapiro said.

"She has a deep knowledge of Congress, strong management experience, an abiding interest in the work of the institution and is highly respected by the congressional community. I am confident she will be a great asset to CMF and the Congress for years to come."

Mr. Shapiro has not yet accepted a new job but is confident that in the future he will maintain his ties to CMF and support its work on behalf of the Congress.
